French automobile manufacturer Marcel Leyat was established by Marcel Leyat in Paris, France, in 1919. The first model was called Hélica (aka 'The plane without wings'). It was steered using the rear wheels, and powered by a giant propeller. The entire vehicle body was made of plywood, and weighed 250 kg (550 lb). In 1927, A Hélica reached the speed of 106 mph (171 km/h). Leyat tried using propellers with two and four blades, selling 30 vehicles between 1919 and 1925.
