Easter Service thanks to joe-kster

Are you a shut-in, or can't make it to Church because of coronavirus closures? Great news: make plans to join Crossroads Community Church on Easter Sunday, April 17, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. PST (first 'garage lockdown' service was on April 12, 2020) for a special live stream event with Pastor Joel Defries, live from CMC, Davis Bay, B.C.: Go to www.CrossroadsSechelt.com on the main page, scroll down to the live video and you should be all set.

Easter (aka Pascha or Resurrection Sunday) commemorates the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, described in the New Testament (Mark 8:31, 9:31) as occurring on the third day after his burial, following his crucifixion by the Romans at Calvary around 30 AD. Easter is the culmination of the Passion of Jesus, preceded by Lent (a 40-day period of prayer and fasting).

"Many years ago I was fortunate enough to go to Israel. I remember waking early one morning, sitting on the balcony of our hotel and looking out as the sun rose on Jerusalem. The clear blue sky, the slight pinkish tinge to the walls of the city felt almost unreal to me. I had never seen anything quite like it. It was beautiful. I clearly remember thinking, 'I wonder if this is what it was like on the morning that Jesus rose from the grave.' It seemed to me like it probably was. After the depressing darkness, the storm and heaviness of crucifixion Friday, I believe that the visual bright cheer and joy of the day would have surely been what Easter Sunday was like.

Good Friday and Easter show us that no matter how lonely or dark and ugly our lives have been, God has provided for us an Easter morning. A morning of new life and hope. Jesus is alive and because of that there is the hope for our lives. He has given us a way to overcome our fears, our dark past, our failures and through an encounter with the risen, victorious, living Jesus we can find the beauty for our lives that comes through a relationship with him. He proved that there is not any power, darkness or evil that can stop his love and commitment to us. He died an ugly death to rise again gloriously and victoriously to offer us life through him. Whether the sun is shining or not this Easter Sunday morning, it is a beautiful day. A day that can change any life from darkness to light." - Dan MacAulay (creator of the new Podcast series, Starting Right with DannyMac)
