Niagara Falls Heroine

Annie Get Your Barrel

Niagara Falls Heroine thanks to Richard McCrillis

October 24, 1901: Annie Edson Tyler becomes the first person to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel. She was 63 at the time, and when she was finally uncorked from the almost-coffin, she declared: "If it was with my dying breath, I would caution anyone against attempting the feat... I would sooner walk up to the mouth of a cannon, knowing it was going to blow me to pieces than make another trip over the Fall." Copyright ©2019 by Day Late History
